"Fun for All" Friday Event
As a part of the City of Eugene Recreation Services "Fun for All" program this summer, WACAI will offer free demonstrations and dance classes geared toward all ages and ability levels. The City of Eugene Recreation Services has partnered with a variety of local organizations, including WACAI, to put together the fun and family friendly "Fun for All" program. The program will include a variety of engaging activities such as BBQs, films, and performances geared toward bringing the Eugene community together.
The first "Fun for All" event including a WACAI demonstration and dance class is THIS FRIDAY, July 14 at Monroe Park. The event includes: a BBQ starting at 6pm, a WACAI demonstration and free all-levels dance class from 7-8pm, and a showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at 9pm.
The City of Eugene established Monroe Park as an official city park in 1961. Since then, its 2.5 acres have exhibited public art and facilitated a beautiful space for the Eugene community to come together. Located in Eugene's Jefferson/Westside neighborhood, Monroe Park offers picnic tables, a children's play area, and a large outdoors space for public performances and events. This makes it a prime location for Eugene's "Fun for All" program.
This Friday's event provides an example of the rich diversity in the Eugene community. All in the same night, you and your family can come enjoy a BBQ, experience the joy and passion of West African music and dance outdoors with the Eugene-based West African Cultural Arts Institute (WACAI), and then "come to the dark side" with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. To refresh your Star Wars memory, The Force Awakens film, Episode VII, is set three decades after the defeat of the "Empire." Come and enjoy!
