Join WACAI at LCC's Open House

This Thursday, September 7th, WACAI will engage the community in a fabulous and FREE, interactive dance demonstration with live drumming during the last hour of LCC's annual open house event! We'll show participants some dance moves native to Guinea, West Africa, home of our talented Artistic Director Alseny Yansane. WACAI is asking any of our current and former dance students to be present from 6-7pm to bust a move, tell folks all about what they enjoy about WACAI's classes, and help kick off the season of upcoming classes.

The entire LCC open house runs from 4-7, so if you arrive before our dance jam, you can enjoy a FREE small coffee or soda from the Titan Store, quench your thirst for genealogical knowledge in a family tree workshop with LCC instructor Ron Jordan, or build your professional portfolio with FREE professional headshots from the Lane Small Business Development Center.

LCC will host this event in its Mary Splide Building. Sound unfamiliar? That's because the building has a new name! In June this year, the LCC board moved to rename its downtown campus after LCC's recently retired president, Mary Splide. Splide, LCC's first female president, has earned numerous awards for her skills in higher education and administration. The newly named Mary Splide Building will honor her for these incredible achievements as well as for her 16-year service as president. LCC's Annual Downtown Campus open house event has run for many years, but this Thursday will be the first one under the new building name.

Fun fact! This building is also LEED Platinum certified! LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, certification for buildings requires that the building exhibit resource efficiency and environmentally sustainable features. In other words, buildings such as LCC's Mary Splide Center reduce water and energy consumption as compared with other buildings and ultimately improve our environment with reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Not only does the Mary Splide Building honor an inspiring leader in our community, but it also protects our environment. How cool! LCC will offer free tours during the open house. We hope you can join us!
