WACAI's Culminating Event with Fefafe
West African Cultural Arts Institute is having their Kids African Drum, Dance & Cultural Arts Program Culminating Event this Friday, March 27th from 5-6 pm at the Boys & Girls Club. This event is totally FREE and great for KIDS of all ages!
The event starts promptly at 5 pm with a short student presentation that demonstrates some of the material they learned with WACAI these past two weeks followed by an explosive 30 minute performance by Fefafe. Linger after the show for an open house to learn more about WACAI's weekly classes and programs as well as the facilities at The Boys & Girls Club.
Fefafe is an authentic, West African performance troupe which presents the traditional culture and sounds of Guinea, West Africa. The name, Fefafe, translates from their Susu language to “Something Good is Coming.” After touring professionally around the world, these Guinean artists have recently settled in the Eugene area. Each member has diverse professional training and performance backgrounds in dance, percussion, balafon, and acrobatics, which greatly adds to their dynamic, culturally rich performances.
The artists Alseny Yansane, Alya Sylla, Ibrahima Sory Sylla, Fode Ismael Sylla and Papa Yansane look forward to taking the stage on Friday evening with guest drummer, Talib Lamount.
Audience members can expect to be moved by the passionate percussion pieces, dynamic dance routines, beautiful balafon music as well as join in the fun during the audience participation segment at the end of the show. These dynamic performers are, indeed, keepers of their culture and are not to be missed!
This project made possible in part by a grant by Lane Arts Council with support from the City of Eugene Cultural Services Division.
