Family Fun for FREE!

During Petersen Barn’s Family Fun Night event, WACAI will lead a free guided African dance activity with live drumming! African dance, typically danced barefoot, always coincides with a drum rhythm, and it’s always a community gathering!

Dance Workshops with Guest Moustapha Bangoura

The first week of September special guest teacher Moustapha Bangoura will be returning to Eugene for some more wonderful dance workshops geared towards all levels! This a great opportunity to study with a teacher and artist who has grown up in the "golden age" of the Guinean cultural arts and who has taught classes, workshops, and conferences all over the world and been honored many times over for his work as a teacher and choreographer.

"Fun for All" Friday Event

As a part of the City of Eugene Recreation Services "Fun for All" program this summer, WACAI will offer free demonstrations and dance classes geared toward all ages and ability levels. The City of Eugene Recreation Services has partnered with a variety of local organizations, including WACAI, to put together the fun and family friendly "Fun for All" program.

Guinean Culture at Oregon Country Fair

Every year around the time July rolls around the air just seems to be electric in anticipation for the magical weekend of the Oregon Country Fair! This year there are two opportunities to experience the joy and passion of  authentic West African culture at Fair in Xavanadu, the gorgeous new area that was formerly Craft's Lot. Join WACAI on Friday from 6-7 pm in the WorkIt Shop for an awesome African dance class lead by Alseny Yansane and be awed by Guinean cultural performance arts on Saturday from 4:45-5:30 pm on the beautiful and expansive Dance Pavilion Stage! You also can find us drumming and dancing around closing time by the Solutions booth near Fair's entrance that is marked by the big dragon structure on top.

Kids Summer Classes at Oak Hill School

Are you looking for ways to keep your kids active and engaged this summer? Enroll them in WACAI's West African Drum, Dance, and Culture classes at the Oak Hill School Summer Program! In these classes, students learn about West African culture through a variety of hands-on activities and interactive games. Note: Your child does not have to be a student at Oak Hill School during the academic year to enroll in WACAI's Oak Hill School Summer Programs.

After School Program at Fairfield Elementary School

Starting today sounds of drumming will be heard filling the hallways of Fairfield Elementary School once students are dismissed from their school day. For the second year in a row West African Cultural Arts Institute will partner with Fairfield to offer an arts educational program focusing on drum, dance, and culture from Guinea, West Africa to students grades 3-5.

Andrea Leading Kids Dance ClassVeteran's Day is just around the corner on Friday, November 11th and if you're planning on staying in or visiting Eugene on this National Holiday then we have an excellent opportunity for you! WACAI is partnering with Music Education and Performing Artists Association (MEPAA) and Peterson Barn to offer cool and cultural workshops for kid ages 10-18 from 12:30-3:30 pm.
