Excursions to the idyllic village of Kambalia and one of the gorgeous Loos Islands off the coast of Conakry are one of the many highlights of our trip. Traveling outside of Conakry, Guinea’s buzzing, urban capital allows travelers a wonderful opportunity to experience village life in peaceful and breathtaking settings.
Our first excursion will take us to a gorgeous hillside paradise, immortalized by Nick Incorvaia’s documentary, “Illymanya”, complete with earthen huts with thatched roofs and surrounded by acres of awe inspiring fields brimming with the bounty of Guinea’s finest indigenous permaculture. Enjoy taking classes under the shade of palm trees, singing at night with the village children under the glow of kerosene lamps, harvesting vegetables with the local farmers, hiking through volcanic rock formations to the historic landmark of Le Voile de Mariee waterfall known for its rejuvenating powers and shopping at Kindia’s bustling outdoor market famous for its local hand dyed cloth.
Just an hour off the coast of Conakry lays pristine island beaches with warm sands, fabulous surf and wonderfully hospital island culture. This is a perfect holiday get away as islanders love to include Westerners in their celebrations, which are quite festive and merry despite the lack of snow, Christmas trees, and eggnog! Students will spend blissful days and starry nights enjoying open air classes, dips in the ocean, lounging on the beach, island nightlife, and a killer holiday dance party.
Culminating Events will be in the form of a traditional Guinean Dundunba party where participants will dance and drum with other Guinean artists in a very high energy and interactive environment.
